The Underground Railroad
Slaves aboard the Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad wasn't really a railroad, and it wasn't underground. It was a secret way to take slaves from the South to freedom in the North and Canada. The Underground Railroad was a serious network of a large group of abolitionists who wanted to bring slaves to freedom. It consisted of taking slaves to houses to live in secret apartments, transporting them in carriages and on boats. The Underground Railroad was roughly estimated to have helped 100,000 slaves escape.
